The Book: Noticing Being One - selected articles

In 1981 Rupert Sheldrake (doctorate in botanic biochemistry from Cambridge University) published a book titled: ‘A New Science of Life: The Hypothesis of Morphic Resonance’. This article gives a very brief overview of Sheldrake’s concept.

Behind the events in the manifest world is an evolving web of mental patterns which I call Great Consciousness. We can simply call these patterns ‘Stories’. The Stories happen on all levels of scale. All Stories affect each other – they do not happen in isolation. Universal Awareness makes the Stories of Great Consciousness manifest by becoming aware of them.

With sentient beings, Great Consciousness has evolved to tell the Stories of myriads of beings with their own individual consciousnesses. So: Have we become angels, assisting Great Consciousness? No, because each sentient being is itself a Story, being told by Great Consciousness.

My Noticing in Universal Awareness had expanded to the extent that I kept falling into everyone and everything I met or saw, being non-separate from them. I found it almost impossible to function in everyday life in a state like that. It has nowadays subsided to a manageable level. This article describes how living with Enlightenment is like for me nowadays.

Let overwhelming things, and your emotional and energetic reactions to them, flow through you without resistance, just as the air lets the sleeting rain pass through it.

Extension of Perception involves practice, often in groups, with the intention of perceiving yourself, and more, at unaccustomed levels. For example, you may practice noticing the feelings and stories in various parts of the body, or beyond that in the energy fields of your being, known as Aura and Chakras.

When you are not holding on to anything, the fear of loss is no longer possible. When you are not pushing anything away, the fear of being confronted with something you don’t want is equally impossible. And when you are totally prepared to notice what’s going on, then noticing and knowledge are there.

Feeling frustrated with someone may be an understandable organismic reaction, but thinking that someone else should be different to how they are completely misses the point – they cannot be different to how they are!

So often people want their partner to change, to be different than they are. But you can only be in relationship with the person who is present now. You can’t be in relationship with the object of your hopes and desires, because it does not exist.
