Comments on a futuristic YouTube video
Digressing slightly from the purely spiritual, my comments on the video Timelapse of future technology: 2022 – 4000+ on YouTube:
- 2022: Completely believable
- 2025: Same – IF people want / accept that…
- Assuming the earth does not get caught up in global resource wars and collapses into chaos…
The rest is conjecture, but I don’t doubt that the first half of the video is all technically possible. But I don’t think it would go that quickly – if it happens at all. The whole thing is a sort of best-case wet dream of some tech freaks, and does not take sustainability and its repercussions for life on earth into account adequately. What it also does not take into account is the spiritual aspect, a possible increase in the mentality of living quiter lives in a morphogenetic field with more respect for life in general, with more sense for the common good, and less sense for personal gain at the cost of other beings. Such a changed mentality would doubtless have repercussions on what humanity prioritises to do. The scenarios shown in the video assume without question the continuation of the current mentality.
The Alcubierre Warp Drive is a known theory, a valid solution to Einsteins general relativity equations. But it is also likely to prove impractical, the linked article in WikiPedia describes 6 problems with the concept. There are other ways of overcoming the lightspeed barrier, but not via warp bubbles or wormholes. I’m referring to the quantum relocation drive, which basically cuts a bubble of space (a ship) out of the conventional spacetime completely, using directed jumps in quantum probability in all atoms of a supermolecule (which is the ships hull) to move it.
The latter stages of the video starting Type 1 civilisation and humans colonising the whole galaxy does seem to me to be a completely human-centric, not to mention crazy, idea. Rather, I suggest that encountering other evolved intelligences “out there” – and having to get on with them – will make the sort of narrative as shown in the video completely obsolete. Not to mention that before getting on with other intelligent species we must first learn to get on well, responsibly and cooperatively with our fellow human beings – otherwise, we’re never going to get “out there” anyway.
